Free VR Browser Games

VR browser games are games built with WebXR, the web standard for headsets, so they run inside your headset's browser from an ordinary link. There's no store page, no install and usually no sign-up: you open the address, press the game's VR button and you're in. Here are the best ones, each opened and checked on 8 October 2026.

VR browser games use WebXR to run inside a headset's web browser, so you open a link instead of installing an app. The strongest free ones in October 2026 are Above Par-adowski (mini golf), Moon Rider (rhythm) and The Escape Artist (puzzles). On a Quest, open Meta Quest Browser, go to the game's address and press its VR button.

How these were checked

Every game below loaded on 8 October 2026, and I recorded what it needs to play, whether it asks for an account and what it costs. Nobody played them in a headset for this page, so where a game "runs on Quest", that's the maker's own statement or a recent report, not my test. Links rot fast in browser VR: Mozilla's Hello WebXR, once the standard first demo, now redirects to an end-of-support page, and A-Frame's A-Blast still loads but uses the retired WebVR code that Meta Quest Browser dropped in version 9.0.

To open any of them on a Quest, start Meta Quest Browser from your app library, type the address and press the game's VR or Play button. The full walk-through is in opening a web page in Meta Quest Browser.

The three to start with

Above Par-adowski

Nine holes of mini golf on a gentle, cartoon course, from the studio Paradowski Creative. Its own page calls it "WebXR mini-golf for Meta Quest", and the studio says it was named Game of the Year at the 2022 WebXR Awards. You need controllers: a trigger teleports you to your ball, so you never glide around the course, which should make it a gentle first game for a stomach new to VR. Free, no account. The one catch is length: nine holes and it's done. aboveparadowski.com

Moon Rider

A rhythm game that plays songs from a community-made library of beat maps, with modes the page calls Ride, Classic, Punch and Viewer. It's the game most WebXR lists name first, it's free and open source, and there's nothing to sign up for. You need controllers for the slicing and punching modes. Its makers say it supports every headset, Quest included. The latest commit I found was from March 2024, so I wouldn't count on quick fixes. moonrider.xyz

The Escape Artist

A story-led escape room in which you play an artist's muse, again from Paradowski, released through the Quest Browser homepage in 2023. Its listing promises narration, subtitles and left-handed controls, and it's the longest sit on this page. I checked the page and its requirements but haven't played it through in a headset. It asks for controllers, and on a computer it simply tells you to come back on a headset. Some of the puzzles will stump a first-timer, which is the point. esc.art

If you're new to headset games, start with Above Par-adowski's teleporting golf before a continuous-motion title. You can learn the trigger without the view carrying you forward.

Not games: worlds to sit in

The next four are mine. Sparksbud is the site I make, and its worlds aren't games: there's no score, no goal and nothing to lose. They're 360-degree places drawn live in your browser, with recorded music that stays off until you turn it on, and they belong on this list because they open the same way the games do, from a link, with nothing to install and no account. Point and pinch or pull the trigger to use the menu, or with no controllers connected, look at a button for 1.5 seconds.

  • Skybloom. A flower meadow above a mirror sea, with floating islands that bob in a low sun. You stay put, so it's the gentlest first headset session I can offer.
  • Aurorafy. A dark northern lake under jade and violet aurora. Choose Touch the lake and a ripple of light crosses the water.
  • Lantern Sea. Hundreds of paper lanterns drifting over a moonlit meadow. Release a wish and one rises from where you're looking.
  • Clockwork. You stand inside a giant floating machine of brass and gears. Wind the workshop and the whole thing speeds up around you.

All four are free. The site has no adverts, and it counts visits with Google Analytics, as its privacy policy says. You can browse every world before you put the headset on.

Elysian

A cyberpunk robot wave shooter with a survival mode and four-player deathmatch, also playable on a flat screen. When I checked, 34 people were online. Its store-packaged version became, by UploadVR's account, the first WebXR game on Quest's Horizon Store in 2025, at 7.62 MB. Controllers. Free. elysian.fun

XR Dinosaurs

Walk a park and call up life-size dinosaurs, or shrink them to toys, in VR or in passthrough AR. It's an experience more than a game, with nothing to fail, and it's maintained by Brandon Jones, one of the editors of the WebXR standard. Controllers or hand tracking. Free. xrdinosaurs.com

Shed Racer

Toy-car racing with career cups, a collapsing-track survival mode, a track editor and online or split-screen multiplayer. It has the most modes of any game on this page, and you can steer by pinching with your bare hands. Free, with optional cosmetic purchases, and an account only if you want progress saved. One honest note: the roundup that praises it was written by its own platform. dmnshd.gg

Rebound

Table tennis rebuilt from Google's 2016 Konterball experiment. Play solo, or read a five-letter room code to a friend and play them one on one. Controllers, tracked hands, or a hands-free gaze mode. Free, no sign-up. The visuals are minimal. dmnshd.gg

Chess Legends

Chess against a computer opponent at three levels, or against live players with a rating and a monthly leaderboard. It's slow, still and new, released in July 2026. Controllers in VR, and it also runs on phones and computers. Free, and guest progress merges into an account if you make one. heyvr.io

Wonderbricks

Build with blocks on floating sky islands, in VR or mixed reality, with no goals at all. Hand tracking is supported. One reviewer found moving around awkward and the bricks tiny. Free and open source. heyvr.io

Plockle

A 3D block puzzle with about 40 levels, which its makers put at around 10 hours. There's real puzzle depth, though the site's talk of active development looks stale. Controllers, trigger to grab. Free, no download or payment. plockle.com

Fit'n Punch XR

A boxing workout: throw the combos it calls out, round after round. Its page says it's built for the Quest browser. Expect a quick sweat rather than a training plan. Controllers. Free. itch.io

Defuse Protocol

A bomb-defusal game for a group: you wear the headset and handle the bomb while friends read the Field Manual on a phone or laptop and talk you through it. The page has a Start in VR (Quest) button and suggests low or medium quality on a Quest. Controllers, with snap turning. No price or sign-in shown, and its page was updated in September 2026. smallerbytes.github.io

Krossa

A physics toy: smash glass vases with a baseball bat. Satisfying for a few minutes and no longer. It needs controllers with full position tracking. Free. itch.io

HoverFit

A hoverboard workout where you squat and lean to race, with a monthly squat league. It's a real workout, but the full version sits behind a year pass of 400 heyVR coins, about $20. Controllers plus your whole body. Free to try. heyvr.io

Art Salad

A VR museum where you assemble jigsaw puzzles made from 3D scans of real artworks and historical objects. Calm and educational, but untouched since 2022. Headset needed. Free and open source. artsalad.net

When you run out, three directories list more: heyVR, a portal of free browser VR games, webxr-metaverse.com's games page, a curated list whose game links all loaded when this page was checked, and itch.io's WebXR tag, the biggest and most uneven. dmnshd.gg, home of Shed Racer and Rebound, is a commercial platform, so read its own rankings with that in mind.

If any of these leave you queasy, the fixes in VR motion sickness apply to browser games exactly as they do to store apps.

What you need to play

These games target WebXR browsers, mostly on Quest. A compatible browser is the first requirement, and each game also needs the right controls and supported features, so controller-only games may not work with Vision Pro's look-and-pinch input. The full support picture is in which browsers run WebXR.

Read a game's control notes before pressing its VR button. A free page may still expect two tracked controllers, hand tracking or a browser feature your headset lacks.

What you skip by not installing

A store app on a Quest takes four steps in the headset: open the Navigator, select the Meta Horizon Store, select the app, then select its price or Free. Then it downloads. Calm and meditation apps aren't small: TRIPP is 2.85 GB, Nature Treks VR 1.4 GB, Maloka 920.73 MB and Guided Meditation VR 7.67 GB on their store listings as read on 7 October 2026, and sizes change with updates. A web game skips the install, though not the download. Your browser downloads files, which it may cache for later visits. In five cold loads of Sparksbud's Skybloom from a local server on an M3 Pro laptop, the median first desktop frame arrived 369 milliseconds after the page started loading, with 171 requests counted through network idle and an estimated 7.7 MB once compressed the way the live site serves it, analytics excluded. That measured the development build on a laptop. The live site on a headset over home Wi-Fi will take longer, and nobody has measured that yet.

Frequently asked questions

How do I play VR games in my headset's browser?

Open your headset's browser, such as Meta Quest Browser, type the game's address and press its VR, Play or Enter VR button. The browser can only start VR from a tap or click, so every game asks for that one press. Nothing is installed, though the page still downloads its files.

Are VR browser games free?

Most are. HoverFit is free to try, with a paid one-year pass for the full game, and Shed Racer sells cosmetic extras, so check a game's listing before paying. Some web games need a free account for leaderboards or saved progress, but none of the ones above require one to start.

Do VR browser games work on Quest 3?

The browser does: Meta Quest Browser on Quest 2, 3, 3S and Pro supports immersive WebXR with controllers and hand tracking, and most games above name Quest in their own listings. Whether a given game plays well on your Quest still depends on its controls and performance, which I haven't tested in a headset. Older games built on WebVR, the standard WebXR replaced, stopped working in Quest Browser 9.0.

Can I play VR browser games with hand tracking?

Some. Shed Racer, Rebound, XR Dinosaurs and Wonderbricks support hands, and Rebound even has a gaze-only mode. Many others, including Above Par-adowski, Moon Rider and Krossa, need controllers, so check each game's controls first.

Do I need a VR headset for WebXR games?

For the VR part, yes. A WebXR game needs a headset browser to go immersive, but several, such as Elysian, Chess Legends, Shed Racer and Rebound, also play on a phone or computer screen. Sparksbud's worlds work the same way, as a 360-degree view you drag around.
