What is around you
Hundreds of vermilion and gold lanterns drift over a meadow beneath a full moon, canopy, distant ridges and fireflies.
How it moves
The observer stays in place as every lantern follows its own gentle drift and warm light moves across the ground.
What you can do
Choose Release a wish, press E, or tap the scene to send a lantern in the viewing direction upward with nearby companions before it settles back.
Music
Golden wishes adds playful plucks and warm lantern bells only when the music control is on.
Controls
Drag or touch to look around; the arrow keys turn the view and R returns to the opening direction. Space pauses motion, M starts or stops music, F enters fullscreen, and the settings control changes motion speed and brightness.
Browser and device
A current browser with WebGL 2 and graphics acceleration is required. On a compatible WebXR browser, including Meta Quest Browser, the app can offer Enter VR.
Inside this world
Lantern Sea is a moonlit lantern VR world where the visitor remains in the meadow and the lanterns supply the movement. Hundreds of lights travel on separate paths, so the sky changes even when you do nothing. Warm patches on the ground and the fireflies give you nearby details to watch while the lanterns rise farther away.
Release a wish adds one moment of participation: a lantern lifts in the direction you are facing and nearby companions follow. You can return to watching without another objective or a timed task. The world runs in a regular browser as a draggable 360° view, or in a compatible WebXR headset with the same scene around you.

On Meta Quest, open Meta Quest Browser, visit https://sparksbud.com/?view=360&world=lanterns, and choose Enter VR. Safari on Apple Vision Pro supports WebXR too, though Sparksbud has not been tested on that device yet. No download or installation is needed.
Is Lantern Sea free to enter?
Yes. Lantern Sea is completely free with no account creation, sign-up, subscriptions or adverts.
Can I experience Lantern Sea without a VR headset?
Yes. You can explore on any computer, phone or tablet in a WebGL 2 browser. Drag or touch to look around in 360 degrees, and use Space to pause or M to play music.
What comfort options are available?
On a computer, Space pauses motion. In every view you can lower the speed and brightness in settings, and visitors who prefer reduced motion begin paused. Music is off until you turn it on.
